Individuals with lactose intolerance have difficulty digesting the sugar lactose which is present in many milk and milk products.

Some people with lactose intolerance can still consume small amounts of milk and dairy products such as cheese, yogurt and small amounts of milk (200ml) when eaten with other foods without experiencing symptoms.

Symptoms of lactose intolerance can include flatulence, bloating, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.
