The Food - a fact of life (FFL) Network Trainers comprises a national team of practising teachers who are working in partnership with FFL to host and deliver training on a local level.

The FFL Network Trainers have been recruited through a rigorous application process and are currently undertaking training with FFL. Training will be available from April 2019 - watch this space!

The topics of the training sessions will vary, although will be based on agreed priorities and linked to the curriculum/qualifications, as well as the Food teaching framework. It is likely that these will include:

  • ‘back to basics’ food skills;
  • applied nutrition through practical activities;
  • food science investigations;
  • food provenance.

Depending on the topic, the training event could be a half or full day (for practical activities), an after school ‘twilight’ session, or part of a local teacher network meeting (as a ‘guest’ presenter).

All FFL Network Training events will be provided free-of-charge. Attendees will receive refreshments, resources and links to further information. A certificate of attendance will also be provided – useful for performance management and compiling professional development records.

Regional Network Training events April – July 2019

Food – a fact of life is delighted to launch the regional Network Training programme with two free interactive training packages to give secondary food teachers skills and knowledge to engage and inspire their pupils.

Eleven training events, run by FFL Network Trainers, will take place at a variety of schools during April – July 2019.  See below for booking details.

Rolls, pizza or fruit plait. What’s the learning intent?

Join your local Network Trainer and work with other local teaching professionals to create a range of dishes and determine the learning intent. Could it be food preparation, food science, food skills, food provenance, nutrition, hygiene? All of them or something else?

Through discussion, gain insight as to how recipes can be made more complex to encourage and demonstrate stretch and challenge, pupil progression and independence.

Engaging, challenging and stretching pupils through active learning

Join your local Network Trainer and discover a range of classroom-ready active learning strategies in food and nutrition. Working with local teaching professionals, learn more about how to engage, challenge and stretch pupils with resources around healthy eating, cooking (food science) and where food comes from. Make cheese and frothy milk, consider the impact of portion sizes using practical examples, identify food chains and much more!
