Making practical lessons easier

Planning isn’t just for September... teachers know it’s a year-round job! As a food teacher myself, I remember the pressure of pulling together resources for a practical lesson while managing everything else at the same time. That’s why at Food – a fact of life, we want to help lighten the load. 

We’re excited to launch our brand-new Recipe support packs, created especially to save you time, reduce workload, help your practical lessons run smoothly and enhance teaching and learning. Best of all, they’re fully editable, so you can tailor them to suit your students and classroom.

What’s inside the Recipe support pack?

Each Recipe support pack contains everything you need to bring a recipe to life in your practical lessons:

• Nutritional analysis label for each recipe, so that you and your students can make more informed choices
• Serving sizes
• A starter, or ‘do now’ activity to grab students’ attention right from the beginning
• Ingredients and equipment lists, with photos for easy reference
• Practical food skills list and food skill demonstration videos to support your teaching and demonstrations
• An easy-to-follow method, which is perfect for displaying during the lesson so students can work independently
• Top tips to allow for further discussion about the recipe and adaptations which students could make
• Food science information to extend learning
• Plenary activities to draw together what has been learned, enable pupils to reflect, and identify any knowledge gaps
• Links to further resources and activities connected to the recipe or practical food skills used
